     Pregnancies are life-altering experiences for both men and women, no matter the outcome. Men are often confused about their role. They often don’t know what to say or how to show their support.  Pregnancy Help provides a place to work through the questions and concerns that are important to the men involved in a pregnancy.  While women are usually the first to contact us, we encourage men to reach out too, so you can say what’s on your mind, get answers to your questions, and learn what resources may be available.

How can you as a man respond to the news of a pregnancy?

• Start by listening - and consider her worries and fears. The more you listen to her, the more likely she will be willing to listen to you.
• Keep from pressuring her. Whether she expresses it or not, she needs your support right now.
• Encourage her to take time before making a final decision. This is one of the most important decisions she will ever make.
• Talk with her and those you trust. It may be hard to start the conversation, but avoiding this reality makes it more difficult to come up with the right decisions.  
• Consider that she may be relying on your viewpoint and support if she is to continue the pregnancy. Many men assume that because this is the woman’s choice, they should not express their opinion. However, many women want to know how you feel and if you are committed for the future.
